Welcome to the world of 1/4 Maple boards. If you need 1/4 thick Maple, you're in the right place. Sanded smooth both faces, and edges.... This Maple is harvested here in Wisconsin, by a local community of Amish woodworkers....
This ensures for a sustainable harvest, since horses work around the young saplings in the forest... Tractors just run them over.
The wonderful thing about working within a small community of Amish, is that you get whatever they harvest. No picked over boards, with the best removed, like at the big box stores. And the best part is, these are all delivered right to your door. It's important to know Maple comes in a variety of colors, from white to brown. Some even have streaks of both, and sometimes I run into boards with a tint of green, or curly figure.
Hopefully you enjoy the natural colors that maple presents, however if you need boards that are mostly white, or mostly brown, just reach out to me with a message, BEFORE you place your order, so we can get you exactly what you need. Take a look at the pictures, to understand Maple coloring.
Need some wood you don't see here? We also carry Walnut, Red Oak, Cherry, Black Ash, White Ash, White Oak, Pine, Aromatic Red Cedar, Grey Elm, Purpleheart, Padauk, and even more. We work hard to keep our prices as low as possible. Harley manages the harvesting and kiln drying.Yost, Felty, Ivan, Leroy, Andy and his boys do most of the heavy milling. William and John do the sanding, with help from Dannie when we get busy. John and his wife Vera do the Quality Control, with help from Verna. And now, Daniel is on board. He makes wide table tops, and can apply a stunning finish to any of our products.
Need a large coffee table top, or island table top? Since Daniel came on board, we can now get you large glueups like those. Daniel can also apply a stunning finish for you.
He truly is an Amish Craftsman, and we're lucky to have him on board. Many people ask me what I've learned working with the Amish? Their entire families are honest to the core.... I think Harley's up to 8 or 9 kids, last count. They are tuff as nails, and strong as an ox. I've never eaten deserts like Vera makes (sorry mom). They aren't real big on safety glasses (I keep harping on Harley). They work at one speed..... If you're not happy, either are they.
So, if a board arrives cupped, or has a small imperfection, there's no need to jump on our backs with anger. Just drop us a message, and we'll get you taken care of.
