The first photograph is identified on verso "Episcopal Church Sing Sing" placing all four to the prison. The second shows an armed guard on horseback outside the gates with a rifle, with another burly man with mustache splitting wood, a little girl sitting on the log, along with another man that could either be a prisoner or worker holding a gardening tool? The third photo shows several men possibly just outside the prison in the woods?
And the last, the fourth photo, an amazing shot of the early gate and multiple prison structures inside. Each cabinet card measures approx. The fourth cabinet card has some water marks on the bottom of the card, and all four images are uneven as shown. Please see photos for the exact condition. With the advent of the electric chair in 1891, Sing Sing became notorious for its executions. Although the electric chair was developed at neighboring Auburn, almost all executions within the state were carried out at Sing Sing until 1963. Please check my other auctions.
