Burl California Olive Wood Cross Cut Slab, Live Edge. Dimensions are - 27" X 25" X 1" 7/8"-1" 3/4". This is a sizable cross section of prime California Olive. As you can see this slab has a high level of compression figure, along with cats paws and birds eyes, offering a veritable menagerie of features not often exhibited in the same piece.

This is due no doubt to stressors of hight and girth as well as the rigors of the elements in it's growth environment. There is some minor cracking and checking from the drying process Olive is noted as a fast cracker.

There is a plung chain saw cut that should be noted. Not a game changer but noteworthy. I attempted to squared the very rough chainsaw cut cookie, being already exposed and "mutilated" I have had to go to great lengths to smooth and even the surface (it is not yet completely flat). The bark which is dense and still sticky with lignin is not completely dry enough to simply chip away and may require detailed attention. When first evaluated, I had in mind to simply cut the cookie into smaller sections for small projects but this piece was thick enough and large enough overall to consider for a hybrid table or sculpting.

As with all burls the wood is subject to checks, chipping and cracks, maybe even the occasional bug hole or rot. I have endeavored to eliminate as much bark and inclusions as is practical for the sell.
